I started my warm up by sitting down to ground myself and focus on my breathing. It allowed me to connect to my body and check where I was holding tension in my body. I then started to breathe on an inhale for a count of 4, hold for 2 and exhale on a count of 4. Focusing on breath control and connecting my breath to my body. After repeating this exercise for 30 seconds I then focused on releasing an exhale on a hum. Through the hum I was able to then gently warm up my vocal cords and focusing on where I hold my resonance. Then I got up to start warming up in a standing position. I tried to ground myself by aligning my posture and checking where I held my pelvis, where I held my head and checking that my knees were unlocked. I had been told by my voice tutor that I needed to focus on unlocking my knees and releasing tension in my shoulders to have better breath support and control over my voice. Therefore, I felt for this warm up I should include a focus on alignment and releasing any tension within my body. I then started a jaw massage to release tension from my jaw,. I found it useful but my jaw was tense and was hard to release. In future I will include this practise before lessons regularly so I could have full use of my body especially for vocal lessons. To release my jaw over time for better diction and release of sound. I then went into a hum and used a splat breath to breathe into my belly. I used my hands to jiggle my stomach. It allowed me to resonate and release sound by opening my mouth and releasing on an -ah. It was useful to warm-up my vocal cords and be able to explore and ground my resonance. It was useful in letting my voice travel across the room and not pushing it in a way that could damage my vocal cords. I went into a spinal drop and tried to release and tension from my upper body, head and arms. I found I could release my arms but there was a lot of tensions in my shoulders and being able to fully release my head.
