Synthesis Info

In this project, my composition mostly revolved around synthesis. I used different VST’s such as Alchemy, Flex, Sytrus and different one shot synths that I have gathered on one shot sound packs. I started off using a preset in alchemy called “Mysterious Synth Lead” and added a top melody to the piano I had previously processed and recorded. I later tweaked with this sound to create a note sliding effect whenever notes overlapped, this gave the synth a more human feeling. I went on to use another synth from alchemy called “Deep Techno Chords”, This synth used a handful of notes at once which created a fuller feeling that I liked. I then used a basic sin wave and added some effects and some harmonics to create an arpeggio flourish of notes. I used a dark synth bass to add suspense in the build-up of the song. Thought this process i was constantly learning about sound design and synthesis and how to integrate these skills into production, I have been using synths for a while but never fully grasped how to design and create sounds from scratch.

This video shows me in studio 114 trying out different ways of using alchemy. I decided to use a preset sound in the end but went on to add more developed and processed synths later in the process

Synthesis process evidence

The use of different waves such as sin, saw etc. is useful as it begins to give a new foundation to each sound used in the mix
