Aims/ObjectivesOur aim was to record the band doing 2 songs live in the studio (Trouble Found Me by Madison Cunningham and Misery Business by Paramore), as well as to begin recording an overdub project of Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder.
Aims Met?We began by micing everything up (except from the bass, which was sent through a DI box) and making sure that everything went into a channel that made sense (all drum mics together, kick on 1, snare on 2, room mics on 3 and 4). The drums were miced using the Glyn Johns Technique.

We used 2 small diaphragm condensers for the drums room mic, an SM57 for the snare and a PGA52 for the bass drum. Guitar amps and vocals were miced using SM7s and the bass guitar was sent through a DI box.

One of the problems we ran into was that the desk wasn’t properly reset after the last group left, which caused some problems. Notably, after everything was plugged in, some channels seemed to be receiving little to no signal at all. After trying many ideas, I realised that some of the line level buttons were left pressed down. After un-pressing them, the issue was fixed.

After problems were fixed and levels were set, the band had a few runthoughs of Misery Business, just to make sure everything was working and nothing was peaking or being too quiet on the desk before we recorded both the live songs, as well as the drums and bass for the overdub project.
