Synthesis process evidence

For the Introductory chord progression, I used a synthesiser called Surge XT. I found a preset, as shown, called ‘Distorted Glassy Seq’. It is a pad sounding sequencer in which I had slightly turned down the cutoff on. I did this in order to achieve my desired sound for my introduction.

A pluck sound quickly follows these chords, another preset from the synthesiser Surge XT. This pluck is prominent within the track, therefore, to maintain listener interest, the cutoff has been automated throughout the piece as shown above.

The pad chord progression is also a prominent feature within this track, to maintain listener interest, I automated the ‘Gross Beat’ mix, a plugin specialising in audio manipulation. I turned the cutoff down on this pad preset to get a less bright sound and to achieve the sound I was after.

The main bass within this track comes from the synthesiser Surge XT as well, a preset called ‘Smoothie’ as shown above. I chose this preset as it had lots of low definition and worked around the other elements well. The cutoff was also tweaked slightly, turning it down to prevent masking and make space for a second bass sound.

This second bass acts similar to a pluck, therefore I turned the cutoff up slightly on this preset from Surge XT.

In the introduction, in accompaniment to the sequenced chord progression, I added a bass patch playing the root notes of the chords. I chose this bass as it did not have many harmonics and lots of low definition to work well within the introduction.
