Structure:

The Structure For This Song Is Quite Easy. The Intro Starts a piano chord progression with a another piano layer that plays 4th notes following the same sort of progression as well as a piano of the main progression, and an acoustic strumming guitar / guitar melody with a deep pad underneath to fill the low end that has16 bars, following the verse also has 16 bars, and then there’s a pre chorus that has 8 bars, the chorus goes for 16 bars, then there’s a break that has 2 bars, before the 2nd verse hits to which the verse has 16 bars, then there’s a 2nd pre chorus with 8 bars, and the 2nd verse follows up with 16 more bars. and an outro that finishes the track off with 10 bars.

i think this structure is effective for this song in particular because it’s easy to follow, and it works with the vocals on top of it especially since i also think that this song has the potential to end up in a commercial for a video game with a dreamy type of theme like super mario galaxy for example

Plugins Used:

For The Main Progression i kontakt with a library called “Noire” with the bank settings on “Beyond” and put the timbre soft on the algorithm section of the library, Following up i added a glue compressor, and put the makeujp to 10db, a reverb (Raum in particular) and put the mix to 35% dry wet, and the decay to 3 seconds, and to finish off i added an EQ simply to cut the 200hz

For the 4th note piano layer i chose noire again, and have the same post processing except i chose the Brushed Duo Bank for this one.

The Acoustic Guitar strumming has some parallel compression, -7db on the threshold, and 10db on the makeup following a utility that has a 1.50db gain, then i used an EQ to cut the 235hz, boost the 1k by 1.41db, and boosted the highs with a shelf by 2.85db. and finally i added Raum with the same settings as i did on the pianos, the other guitar recordings like the melody, and the melody harmony in it has the same processing as the strumming has except the parallel compression on both melodies have a 12db makeup, and the threshold being -7db, as well as the chord strumming during the pre-chorus.

the deep pad processing is basically a serum patch with 2 saw waves with 16 unison, a sub oscilator with low volume, and a filter that cuts off 120hz, following a saturator that has 5db drive, and -5db output, and then a glue compressor that has -20db on the threshold, and a 10db on the makeup with a 5db range. then i added 2 OTT’s that have the same settings of 12db output, and a 50% amount. then i added an EQ dipping down the 95hz, by -4db, boosted the 261hz by 6db, and dipped the 880hz by -5db, and finally some filter automation that makes the deep pad filtered on the chill sections besides the chorus.

Field Recording Sample:

For the field recording i had made a 31 second recording using my phone and recorded myself flickering my lighter (using it for the intro section as snare foley), and hit a metal bit (using that metal bit as the chorus snare)

For the processing i added a resonator on the field recorded sample with 55% decay, 26% dry/wet, and put the gain to 5db to make the resonant tone louder for the snare foley, then i added a Raum with 27% dry wet, and 5.6 seconds of decay, following up i added an EQ cutting the 200hz, boosting the 1.7k by 2db, and a boosted shelf at around 5k by 4db, and a filter to have the same automation on the foley, as the snare automation during the softer sections of the track.

Vocals:

for the song i have used two female singers for this song in order to get a test of both vocals in terms of mixing to which i think i did quite well in terms of mixing them, most of them required leveling in some sections of the recorded vocals. i want to mention that have used two female singers for this song in order to get a test of both vocals in terms of mixing to which i think i did quite well in terms of mixing them, most of them required leveling in some sections of the recorded vocals

the 1st singer

the process with the 1st female singer was basically meeting up and writing lyrics for the song to which it’s how we came up with the lyrical concept for this song being about staying in a dream that’s timeless and not wanting to wake up from it due to how blissful that particular dream is.

The 2nd Singer:

the process with the 2nd singer was a lot more simpler in terms of lyrics because we basically just needed a 2nd verse and have the chorus of the lyrics being the same but sung by her in a different tone for the 2nd chorus of the song. i think working with the 2nd singer was a lot easier due to the understanding of what the direction of the song was and what she needed to do with the lyrics.

equipment:

the equipment i have used are a shure sm58 microphone, with a focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface, and ableton to record the vocals.

evidence of the vocal recording:

evaluation:

i think overall the writing of this song both musically and lyrically went well, especially since this is my first time making a pop song and having two vocalists in one song, and i think i did quite well on that.

what can i do in the future:

one thing i wanna do in the future is having two vocalists in one session instead of having them separately because there can be a more of an understanding to everything in terms of communication / understanding etc.
