Statement of Intent
My aim for this portfolio is to showcase my ability to perform in the musical style of contemporary pop performances that you would see in high production arena tours. Most modern pop shows feature songs that differ from their studio counterparts and feature flashy arrangements choreographed by a musical director. These songs I’m playing have been arranged in a contemporary pop style by either myself, my friend Jude Belgrave or professional musical directors, and feature transitions, stabs, and rhythmic arrangements which differ from how they sound on their records and embellish the music.
The first 2 videos are filmed in one take to showcase my ability to perform flawlessly non stop, as this is expected of a performer playing these high production shows. My inspiration for these drum parts are the session drummers that you would find on tours of this type, such as Devon Taylor, Aaron Spears and Dexter Hercules, who weave groove and feel with flashy fills to create a musical spectacle. This portfolio’s purpose is to showcase my suitability to play in a production of this type, which is my career goal, and going forward I will show this to musical directors to acquire work for myself.
