When deciding on the selected songs for my assignment, I wished to demonstrate a wider range of playing styles and skills, sometimes using only a part of a song to help show the important areas. I also attempted to change one of my bands songs to an acoustic to display some level of acoustic skill as well. With this variety of songs, I wanted to show: heavier palm muted downpicking, fingerstyle, an array of different tunings, hammer ons and offs, acoustic playing, string skipping, advanced chords and a little tapping. I also wanted to show more of a performative stance while playing, especially with still waiting and last resort, but due to a broken speaker I needed to sit close to my laptop to hear the backing track. I chose these songs because I wanted to broaden my knowledge of the genres they belong to, especially IF by Glocca Morra as I’ve grown to find the open tunings fascinating. I chose this submission method because I wanted to learn more solo pieces to improve my own playing in this time rather than with a band, so I could focus more on learning new techniques/styles that challenge me.
