EPk word count – 698

This EPK displays who I am as an artist and what I hope to achieve. The EPK’s purpose is to show to both audience and professionals who I am as a musician. My audience gets to know me a little bit better and other musicians know what kind of musician I am and hopefully would look to collaborate with me. I want to be known as the songwriter who can work with any genre of music and with anybody. I don’t want to be associated with one particular genre or sound. The audience I intend to reach out to are people already interested in knowing more about myself, therefore there are detailed descriptions in each section as there isn’t an importance on catching people’s first impression. I intend to have the EPK be part of my self-promotion rather than play a role in it. My audience is not tied to a specific group as I want to be known as a diverse songwriter, so naturally I will reach out to different music tastes and preferences. For professional musicians, I want them to feel confident in reaching out to me to collaborate in writing, producing or composing. No matter what they perform and write, I will be willing to work with them and create great music together.

I included an artist bio just to give a little bit of background of myself. It tells audiences and professionals more about who I am and gives me some personality. The artist bio also functions as a brief summary to my skill set, experiences and inspirations, something that I would make clearer in the EPK in different sections. There are performance videos and photos spaced around in the EPK just to provide visuals on myself. People generally would like to know the face behind the music and it just adds another layer of connection between me and my fans or collaborators. There is a music showcase to show tracks that are fully written, produced and performed by me. I would like to add more tracks and to separate them into two categories. One is for my own artistry and another for experimentation with other genres, unfortunately the free plan for the website that I used to make my EPK did not allow me to add more than five tracks  The inspiration and interests section is more dedicated towards casual listeners and audience and it just gives more insight to what drives my writing. Everybody likes to know what inspires artists that they enjoy listening to and having this section here gives them that knowledge. For professional musicians, the skills and experience section would be more applicable to them. It shows what I bring to the table in collaboration and shows my strengths and everything that I can do to assist in the co-creation process or in the performance. I provided my spotify recap from 2024 just to show how my music did for the year and show the outreach I managed to achieve. Lastly, I included an ambition and goals section to tell both listeners and professionals where I plan to go forward from here. Listeners know what to expect from me and professionals know where I plan to carry my career forward and know what to expect when working with me.

I unfortunately do not have the required media available, but I would love to include more pictures and videos of me in the process of writing music with other people. It solidifies my branding as an efficient and enjoyable co-writer/producer to work with and it shows that I can work with many different types of people and in various environments. I would also have decided on a defined colour scheme to make the EPK look prettier for audiences. I still have not fully considered my artistic identity which is something I am looking to finalise as soon as possible. I would also have gotten a friend who was experienced in graphic design to help make the EPK much more digestible and potentially more accessible. Furthermore I would like to have a spotify playlist preview that visitors can just click on to listen to my tracks on the EPK itself. This would be a convenient way for visitors to listen to my music right there and then. I would also have a schedule to show release dates of upcoming tracks so that my audience is updated and know when to expect new music. When I start to do more content on my socials and externally such as interviews, I would love to put that up on my EPK as well as it shows another depth to my character. Content that I would focus on doing are behind the scenes footage of the writing process of my songs or of other people’s if they would give me permission, interpretive covers and analysis videos of songs written by others.

Most songwriter/producers take pride in the fact that they are part of the songwriting process through and through. Max Martin quoted “I want to be part of every note, every single moment going on in the studio. I want nothing forgotten, I want nothing missed. I’m a perfectionist. The producer should decide what kind of music is being made, what it’s going to sound like–all of it, the why, when and how” That is one of the reasons why I make it such a focus to emphasise that I can contribute to the whole process of songwriting.

As mentioned earlier, this EPK is meant to make people who have an interest in me further invested. Having a spotify playlist preview and a schedule for future release is an easy way to drive stream numbers up. Additionally potentially labels, publishers and musicians looking to collaborate have ample information to know more about me as a musician as well as my contact details.

Before I even got started with my EPK, I looked back on the advice that my peers and lecturers gave me. The main advice I got was to make a unique selling point (USP) clear, so that’s where I got started. I decided that I wanted my USP to be that I could work with any genre and mix genres together. This is not a very common occurrence in today’s pop market. For example popular American songwriter-producer Dan Nigro primarily only works with 3 or 4 artists. I was also told to make the EPK as appealing as possible to professionals as that’s where most potential financial growth is.

While making this EPK, and after listening to the feedback and advice from others, I have also realised that I have not truly developed my artistry branding yet and that is something I should focus on in my career. I realised that branding is extremely important only recently as it makes an artist memorable and unique and keeps listeners coming back. Industrially, it also makes you more marketable and as a result, more labels and publishers approach you. I look forward to revisiting my EPK and seeing what changes I can make and what edits I can do after I have refined my artistic identity. Doing this assignment has made me realise the potential traffic I could draw and I will look to come back to my EPK every month.
