My approach to this Electronic Press Kit (EPK) was to try and encapsulate my personality as an artist. I went into this project to experiment with what could suit my vibe as a music artist and the themes I wanted to explore from the music I make. The music I make is an indie-pop style and I wanted to try and capture the essence of that. I feel I did this well especially in the photos used throughout the EPK which were taken by one of my friends, we had discussions about the themes of my music, such as nostalgia and the up and downs of friendship, to try and get these photos to encapsulate as much of my artist persona and themes of my music as possible. I entered the photo studio with a very open mindset for what we wanted to do. We went in and tried lots of different lighting colours and styles, and we wanted to incorporate some cards and items from my life to add to the nostalgia theme of my music, by showing things from my past and hopefully make people think of their childhoods and teenage years too. By just playing around with different lighting, poses, angles and props we ended up with a collection of photos that represent my music well. I leaned into the silhouette vibe of photos too, I thought this was cool and it could also represent a shadow of my past self/teenage years that are shown in the music I want to release over the next few years. The photos even helped me gain more insight into the image I wanted to portray for myself as an artist. The artist bio was intended to sum up who I am as a musician, I believe through me describing my influences it may help audiences get a sense for my music more, before they listen to it, if they have similar taste or influence then maybe my music can be something that could interest them too. By writing words such as “seeking new opportunities” I hope that it could bring companies or individuals wanting to find collaborative opportunities to contact me or reach out, hopefully bringing me more chances to get my music into the world and help it be heard. I wanted to try and sum up what I wanted to achieve with my music in bringing a sense of community together so that people could find likeminded individuals and feel less alone in their emotions, intending to help people with their own issues through simply feeling related to. Then hopefully people would find the EPK and feel like they want to listen to my music too because they hope to feel related to, which would then boost my audience because they have gained an interest in me, even if it’s only small. My target audience for my music and this EPK is probably teenagers and early 20s, people who are still discovering who they are, struggling with their mental health, and going through the ups and downs of love and friendship. My music has these themes within it, and I think people who are going through similar feelings would be helped by my music. When writing about the skills and strengths, I wanted to emphasise what could make myself employable to labels, managements or even other bands that I could be interested in joining if they need an extra member. Therefore, I outlined the instruments I focus on and my songwriting abilities. This can make me more employable to people looking for songwriters or possible band members because they know what I do well in. I also outlined my performance background and how this is something I want to be more involved in, with the hope that people could reach out to me with performance opportunities they may find, or it might intrigue management companies further. I decided to mention networking events too because I hope to increase how many of these I attend, and want to draw companies willing to work me further into what I do and create. I chose the colours to be the background because I wanted it to feel colourful and full of life rather than a more sleek and plain colour palette, which may draw people away. The colours I used are some of my favourites and I wanted this EPK to represent me as much as possible, so that you can gather as much information about me as possible in a small form. I wanted to have people be able to see my personality as an artist on this EPK, then they’d be able to get an accurate impression of me and my music, and whether they wanted to be involved or not. I also added my contact information at the end of the project, this way if anyone did feel they wanted to contact me for any opportunities or jobs, then they can easily get in touch with me. Making myself more accessible for people in the industry, and also showing my interest for people to contact me.

This EPK meets the intended audience because I believe it is made to appeal to certain people that I aim to be my audience. I believe that it is aimed towards teenagers and young adults because of the emotions of my music that particularly relate to those groups, and I think my artist bio and the photos reflect my aims and themes of my music well, in order for people to gage if it interests them or not. However, I do believe that I could’ve done some things differently. I think the colours I chose could have been more thought out, or blended together better. On one hand, I wanted the EPK to stand out which I feel it does well, but I feel the colours are maybe a bit too bright for the duller themes of my music. It certainly grabs the attention I wanted to get but it may not necessarily reflect me as an artist as well as it could’ve if I’d have chosen maybe darker colours rather than pastels, that don’t necessarily match themes such as nostalgia, for that colours such as warm oranges, browns and greens. I also believe that my layout could’ve been better rather than lists of slides, however I wanted to work with a site I was familiar with and the options were limited. I do think it still works as an EPK but I wanted it to have a website feel to it, that I could potentially use for myself in the future, and I think I’m missing that. Therefore, I do believe my design could’ve been more thought out and better approached so that it truly reflected me as an artist and what I was after from this EPK, allowing it to reach its full potential as a representation of me. I do think my artist bio sums me up well as an artist, and I hope it would help people find it easier to reach out because they learn about me, but I found the skills and strengths section harder to fill because becoming more well rounded is something I want to work on as an artist, therefore this section I found harder to work on because I don’t have as many skills as I may have liked, to apply to this section, and therefore it lacks something. I believe the music that is on there is reflective of who I am as an artist, it is music I’ve recently made that I’m proud of despite it only being demos. Some of these songs, I want to be part of an EP in a couple of years, and therefore it is a good display of my sound as an artist and how I may be able to give people a space to feel related to and safe. I hope the music on this EPK can give people a taste as to what is to come and what my vibe is as an artist, which may also help people gravitate towards me as an artist. The music on this EPK is one of the only things I don’t believe could be improved because it is at a good place for me as an artist and also displays the music I create well. The gallery in the EPK also displays me as an artist well. The lighting I feel represents the themes of my music well, the nostalgia I wanted to show, the orange gives the vibes of sunsets with friends, linking to my themes of friendship, and the silhouettes represent versions of my old self and childhood. However, I do wish they incorporated these themes in a bigger way, such as going on a location shoot where we could’ve experimented with backgrounds more and let that tell the story as well as lighting and props and myself. I do think I managed to sum me up as an artist well in these photos, especially with what we had on offer to us.

In conclusion, I believe my EPK is able to tell everyone who sees it the information they need to know about me, which is the intention of it. I do think some things could’ve been more thought out, for example the colour scheme and layout, but I think it gets across the message I want to say, that I want people to relate to my music, the themes my music has, and how to get in contact with me if the right people want to.
