The purpose of my EPK is to showcase the best of my work and attract career boosting opportunities by helping my audience and future collaborators get to know me both personally and professionally. It highlights my artistic identity, musical strengths, and creative direction, offering a clear picture of who I am as a multi genre guitarist and session musician. Through this platform, I aim to communicate my passion for music, my versatility across styles, and my commitment to growth and collaboration. Ultimately, my EPK serves as a tool to build meaningful connections and open doors for future projects in the music industry.
The structure of my EPK is suitable for its intended audience as it perfectly describes who I am as a musician and it also has lots of clips from gigs, showcases and rehearsals where I am playing many different genres. Proving that I am able to play to a high standed on a variety of styles and genres. By featuring diverse content, my EPK appeals to potential collaborators and industry professionals, showing both my technical skill and musical flexibility. It effectively presents me as a capable, well rounded session musician with a strong creative identity.
I have a great collection of performance clips, but I’ve realized I need better, more professional photos of myself. In the images I’ve used so far, my face isn’t clearly visible, which feels unprofessional, especially right now when I’m trying to connect with future collaborators. Right now, it’s important that people can recognize and remember me, and that starts with clear, high-quality visuals. While I might lean into more abstract or creative photos later on, once I’m more established, I need to focus on building familiarity. For now, I plan to upload more clear, expressive images that help put a face to the music.
I think my professional aesthetic can and probably will naturally adapt depending on who I am working with at the time to fit their project best as I tend to work with many different musicians in many different styles. Flexibility is a key part of my identity as a session guitarist. For my EPK the font that I chose represented me well as it was simple but effective. I’m not aiming to be overly flashy, I just want to show my audience and the music industry to see who I am as an artist. My goal is to let my playing and personality speak for themselves
In today’s music industry it’s extremely important to have a large digital presence and relevance. Think it’s a lot more important to be big on instagram that is where youll get noticed first then when a fan or industry collaborator sees your profile that’s when they can be directed to your website through a link in your instagram bio. An EPK has a slight upper hand on instagram as the people who are looking on your website are more likely to watch a longer video or an extended version of instagram video. Therefore, having both a strong Instagram presence and a well-crafted EPK allows you to capture attention quickly on social media and then direct serious viewers to a more in-depth, professional showcase of your work.
My EPK is designed for two main audiences: fans who simply love the music, and industry collaborators like artists, musicians, and managers. It provides a balance of information and engagement, offering insight into my work while being visually appealing and easy to read. With photos and videos, the website invites all my audience to explore and connect with my music and pernoality on a deeper level. Whether you’re a listener wanting to know more or a professional looking to collaborate, the EPK makes the experience enjoyable and accessible, reflecting both my artistic identity and readiness to grow in the music industry.
After looking on other session musicians’ websites it seems to be pretty similar to what i’m doing except from there being more sections of the websites for things like merch, independent projects and music uploaded to streaming services which I dont have yet although it is definitely a goal to have all of those things in the near future starting with music uploaded to streaming platforms. There are some songs that I have been involved in with writing and guitar playing due to be released in June, July and september.
An EPK drives revenue. I know this as it says on storydoc.com, “With a solid EPK, you can provide venues and booking agents with all they need to understand your music style, stage presence, and audience draw, making it easier to secure live performances.” It also states, “Whether you’re looking for a new band member, producer, or guest artist, an EPK can showcase your music and achievements, attracting like-minded creatives.” This proves that having a well thought out EPK is essential to attracting music industry collaborations that can boost your career and in turn drive up revenue.
For the future if I wanted to have a profesional photoshoot for my EPK and other profesional work that would cost me around £200-350. Another expense is buying a domain name for the website that the EPK would be on; this costs around £100 a year on ‘WIX’. I would also have to consider copywriting my name and according to the UK government website “It costs £170 to register a single trademark in one class. It costs £50 for each additional class.”
I have already copyrighted my music as I have signed up PRS meaning my music is protected.
My ideas came to me by researching other session musicians and taking inspiration from how their websites look and function and working with the experience and tools I have to create something personal to me. My ideas were refined by showing my EPK to people in my class and other students outside of the class. The first person who gave me feedback was Mollie Greene. She told me to make my background a darker colour than it originally was as most of my videos and photos have a darker vibe this helped the presentation of my EPK look a lot more coherent. I also asked Shadow Gyau and they suggested as I dont have any demos of songs that I have recorded I could put a link to my instagram for extra media content. Receiving this feedback from my peers helped make my EPK look a lot more professional.
At this point, my personal and professional development are closely intertwined. Everything I do to grow as a person directly feeds into my growth as a musician. The next stage for me is to focus on building a stronger and more consistent online presence. This includes posting more frequently on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, where I can share short-form content that engages fans and showcases my personality. I also want to start posting longer-form content on YouTube, such as full song covers, behind-the-scenes footage, and performance clips that offer a deeper look into my creative process. Additionally, I plan to continue developing my website and EPK so that it remains up-to-date, professional, and reflective of my evolving brand. At the same time, I recognize that there’s still a lot of work to be done when it comes to my technical ability on the guitar. Improving my skills is essential so I can perform confidently in any musical setting and meet the expectations of the music industry. By balancing online content creation with focused practice and musical growth, I aim to become a well-rounded artist ready for the next steps in my career.
Moving forward I would specifically like to specifically focus on recording higher quality content for example instead of filming everything on my phone I would record my guitar into a DAW like logic to get a better sound quality. I also want to learn more about website design and have a strong image separate from my image when playing with other artists. This is so when I eventually start my own project which I do want to do soon I wil have somewhat of a basis to start from. I also want to focus on certain genres like jazz as even though that’s what I have the most difficulty with when playing when I’m in a band setting.
