I preferred it when this piece of music was made with a smaller group of people and with someone else with the same taste in music as me because it was easier to make the song as we both knew what we wanted to make and what parts to put in. when a bigger group came in we had to find a way to Involve different instruments as I had to think of different grooves of the drums to fit the different type of music. This helped me think of what would fit with the song and what grooves and fills would complement it.
When it came to a bigger group it was harder and much more difficult as it came harder to communicate what we wanted the song to turn out as. I found it easier to communicate with a smaller group because I could get my ideas across to the other players as we could work together to see what fit with the style of music we wanted to create.
With all this it introduced me to different genres of music as the different players in the bigger group come from different pathways as in the smaller group we stuck to one genre of music. In the bigger group it introduced me swing jazz that I haven’t played much of but it helped me think of what grooves would fit with the other instruments. Ib the smaller group we stuck to the one genre which was rock.
The songs we made I think they would sound better if we sped it up and made it faster as it would’ve made the piece a lot heavier. When I was thinking of a groove to play in the piece I played whatever came to mind and I would work on that groove and try and make it different to the original groove and try and make it fit with the music.
I think practice is key to be able to think of grooves and fills as it gives you a chance to feel the music and find the correct grooves and fills for the type of music your playing. Practice helped me as there was a lot of different genres of music there group had to play and it helped me as it made me think of what would fit in the gaps of the music what would make the music have a good groove that accompanied the piece.
Working with different players from different pathways helped open a new way of thinking of grooves and beats that would help brighten the music. I liked the ascending baseline in the smaller group as it gave a heavier feel to the piece of music we were making and it gave me chance to think of what groove to do in the next section of the song.
I liked the tom groove in the smaller groups song as it made it have a heavier feel to the music and it gave me chances too experiment with different types of grooves including the toms and will give me chance to help accompany this section of the song.
All of this has helped me work with other musicians which will help me in future if I want to be able to work in a band. This has also help me open a different genres of music to play too and learn this will help me in future as if I want to become a session performer I can play the genre the person is trying to achieve and lastly this is also helped me with my practice and be able to get better with fills and grooves.
