So the theme of this track is depression. Most of the track is upbeat and happy however there is a disingenuous feel about it. Some parts intentionally drag on to show the performative facade and overcompensation of pretending to be ok when you’re losing your mind. The electric guitars are purposely inconsistent to symbolise this instability and the synth choice is upbeat and melodically simple to resonate with thematic ideas in this section.

The last part is where the facade slips and you can feel the mania. There is inconsistent tempos, unconventional bar structure, clashing notes, dissonance and heavy distortion which all effectively portray the mania of depression. Some technical ways I achieved this with synthesis was through arpeggiation and engineering sounds by experimenting with different wave forms, filters and effects.
