Executive Summary
Redeem Records: independent record label and live event company in Leeds. They have a sharp focus on and passion for discovering, nurturing, and growing the next wave of fresh talent in the alt and electronic music scenes. There is a big space between the innovative underground and the safe mainstream that hasn’t been filled and Redeem intends to fill it by giving artists an easily accessible platform where they can creatively express themselves. Redeem has a dual model: They produce high-quality music; and they put on immersive genre-specific live experiences that take the listeners to another world.

The business will employ a variety of employment types to suit its dynamic operations. Core staff, such as the Managing Director, the A&R Manager, and the Marketing Manager, will be retained on full-time contracts. This ensures that the business has a core of consistent and strategically oriented full-time staff. It is just too important to have that middling consistency up there in the upper management layer near the top of the organizational chart. Freelancers and contractors will be used for specific roles. Core staff is not just a company speaking with a forked tongue. Freelancers and contractors speak the company’s language, too: “At the events, you should engage with the audience like this!” Artists shall typically be engaged via recording contracts, which may include royalty agreements or revenue-sharing models.
All staff will be enrolled in a work pension in accordance with UK employment law. PAYE (Pay as You Earn) will manage income tax and National Insurance contributions for all staff on monthly salaries.
Ultimately, the proposal would gain from a sustainability and inclusivity strategy.

RISKS
The unpredictable flow of income and large upfront expenditures may imperil Redeem Records’ financial condition. Income from music sales, streaming, and events can vary wildly depending on audience tastes, market conditions, and the effectiveness of promotions. At the same time, we (Redeem) have lots of fixed costs, like studio rent, payroll, and marketing, that we must carry no matter what our income is. If we have poor revenue forecasting, overestimate how much we’re going to make, and just plan poorly in general, we could run into cash flow problems, especially in the business’s early months. On the other hand, if it doesn’t have problems forecasting, the unexpected events that can and do happen would negatively impact the profits if we don’t plan for the possibility. Events can and do get cancelled and sometimes, audience demand just isn’t what’s hoped it would be.
Financial Challenges
Income generated from music and events is unpredictable. Cash flow can be affected by any of three major problems: poor attendance, underperforming releases, or delayed sync deals. Regular financial reviews and tight forecasting will be key to ensuring sustainability.
Market Competition
To compete with established labels, Redeem must be creative. It will stand out by focusing on innovative experiences for all artists, digital-native branding, and by forming cross-disciplinary collaborations.
Future Growth & Development
Year 2 Goals
- Expand Signed Artist Roster to 8 clients
- Host Redeems first very EDM underground rave
- Have at least 4 collab clients on the roster
- Have 2 EPs released
- Have at least 4 singles released
Year 3 Goals
- Expand to EDM areas of Western Europe (Amsterdam, Berlin)
- Have own independent vinyl pressings
Employment & Company Structure
Redeem will utilize a combination of full-time, freelance, and contracted employees to perform its mission. Stability is ensured by full-time employee roles such as A&R and event manager. For the mid-level and downslope part of the production graph, Redeem will engage freelancers like producers, photographers, and session musicians. Artists will work under either exclusive or non-exclusive recording contracts with royalty splits and revenue-sharing agreements.
The company offers a Ltd structure that provides two key forms of protection:
1. It protects our liability (more generally, our limited liability company protects our personal assets).
2. It protects the taxation model (as a reflective statement, our company is tax efficient).
Improvement Opportunities
The music industry is not immune to contemporary diversity and climate change conversations. Having a commitment to inclusive and sustainable practices as part of its core would presumably make the Health Alliance even more so an attractive partner for various philanthropic people and so with the appearance of the Health Alliance would come at least some aspect of this.
Crowdfunding and fan subscription models should also be explored by Redeem. This can be done on platforms such as Patreon or Bandcamp. The kind of dedicated fans that exist in this scene tend to be highly invested and willing to pay for services access that is somewhat exclusive like early access to content that is in any way like what “music” might be, access to content that is in any way like “behind-the-scenes” content during the making of the EP/ Album/ Single and access to content that fosters any kind of interaction within a community that is a fan of the electronic scene.
In the end, spawning educational workshops (for instance, production masterclasses, DIY marketing) can create revenue as well as place Redeem in the position of a thought leader. This not only pays for the team’s expertise but also cements relationships with local creative communities and universities—relationships that form the basis for sustainable, long-term growth. Lastly, occupying the position of a thought leader and spawning educational workshops in one’s specialty are ways to pay for and achieve the position.
To improve its political standing, Redeem can associate with progressive principles and push for transformative changes throughout the music business. A crucial move in that direction is to establish as a matter of course—and not as an exception—diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) across all its constituencies: the artists it signs, the staff it employs, and the partnerships it forms. A more inclusive and expansive definition of “artist” that encompasses the following is a vital component of such a move:
1. Actively supporting musicians who have been historically underrepresented in the music business:
– Women
– LGBTQ+
– BIPOC artists
2. Ensuring that the materials used to promote Redeem and the events it sponsors properly reflect the identities of these musicians.
A label can take a political stance through ethical business practices. This includes offering transparent contracts, mental health support, and sustainable event planning. It also means publicly supporting political causes and working with organizations that share our values.
For us, political support means anti-racism, climate justice, workers’ rights, and our other core values—because on those issues, we see clear choices and want to be on the right side- ‘Redeem’ the people and help them rise.
Redeem could present EDM’s part in creating social change through zines, podcasts, and panel events, establishing itself as something more than just a music platform and making itself over into a politically astute cultural presence in the creative industries.
