Business Plan – Wedding Singer
For my business, I have decided to choose a wedding singer. Wedding singing is something that I have participated in before, and currently do to this day, so it only felt right that I delved deeper into the business. Not only for the sake of this essay, but also to help me in my future of wedding singing. Wedding singers have to be:
- Versatile.
- Ready to travel.
- Have the proper equipment.
- Set boundaries.
- Make sure they’re well prepared.
- Have the proper public liability insurance for venues.
There are many factors to think about when beginning your career in the wedding singing industry. The first thing you will need to do is; identify what your USP (Unique Selling Point) will be. There are a lot of wedding singers, so you are fighting a big market, therefore it is important that you have something that sets you apart from the rest. For wedding singers, it is easy to put yourself into a certain niche, you just need to figure out what it is people are searching for.
I decided that my USP would be turning upbeat songs into acoustic sets. This meant that I could target all weddings, but mainly for the more low-tempo parts of the wedding. This would include:
- The ceremony (Singing the bridal party down and out of the isle).
- Cocktail Hour.
- Wedding breakfasts.
- Photo hour(S).
By deciding on this USP, it meant that I wasn’t limiting my sets to certain genres of songs. It meant that I could take any song request from the bride and groom, and turn it acoustic, making sure that the song is fit for the first half of their wedding. This also meant that in the beginning (while the business was growing) I could still earn money from a part-time job. Eventually the plan would be once the business starts taking off, because of my USP, I could possibly do morning and afternoon weddings, considering travel and costs into this as well. However, I knew that in the future, I would want the business to be a full-time endeavor. To ensure that I could do this, I thought it would be best to come up with a tiered system that the couple could choose from. These would include set times, prices and what they would need me for. The tiers go as follows:
Bronze: £175
- 2 songs sung for guests as they get seated before the aisle walk(s).
- A song singing you down the aisle.
- A song singing you out of the aisle.
Silver: £285
- 2 songs sung for guests as they get seated before the aisle walk(s).
- A song singing you down the aisle.
- A song singing you out of the aisle.
- 1 Hour of cocktail hour (1 hour of any songs off of the list sent in the e-mail provided).
Gold: £550
- 2 songs sung for guests as they get seated before the aisle walk(s).
- A song singing you down the aisle.
- A song singing you out of the aisle.
- 1 Hour of cocktail hour (1 hour of any songs off of the list sent in the e-mail provided).
- 1 hour of singing any song off the list in the e-mail provided for wedding breakfast.
- 30 minutes – 1 hour of singing any song off the list in the e-mail provided for photos.
- 1st dance song (up to 2 ½ minutes)
By setting up a tiered system, it meant it would be easier for me and future clients to understand the pricing of my business, how long I would be there for and what they would need me for throughout the day. I would also have a contract that would list a few things:
- If I would need anything throughout the day (depending on the duration of my stay)..
- Guests to be kept a safe distance from me and my equipment.
- Depending on the area, prices may vary depending on mileage (possible slight extra charges for travel costs like fuel and hotel stays for example).
By writing up the tiered system and the partial contract, it meant I would be able to decipher clear boundaries with the couple and their guests, as well as making sure I had clear payment ideas in mind that included travel costs.
It is also important to note that you will be up against a lot of other people in this certain industry (as stated previously). I decided to have a look on social media to see what other competitors were doing.
One of the singers I found online was Georgia Clementine. Georgia’s USP is singing for couples at their weddings that like garage style music. She will then change the song’s tempo and key depending on the timing of the wedding.
Below is a link to Georgia’s social media platform that I found.

Georgia is also very good with her social media. Constant uploading of content, including things like:
- Day in the life of a wedding singer.
- Videos of her at weddings.
- Covers of certain songs she specialises in.
- Things to note/know about her services.
I would use Georgia as an example of what I would do to market my business. I will make videos of day in the lives, songs that I sing at weddings and my set up and post them on my designated social media account. I would also make a ‘showreel’. This would be small 10-15 second videos of songs that I offer. I would make a list of the some songs that I offer and send them in an e-mail to the couple. They could then decide what songs they wanted off of the list for their day, and if they had any requests for the day, I would have to ask for at least 1 month’s notice before the wedding, so that I would have a perfect amount of time to prepare and rehearse the song.
It’s important in this industry to market yourself. The way that Georgia does it is by consistently posting content. I decided to delve deeper into why social media has as big of an influence on businesses and why it’s important to use it to our advantage.
“One of the biggest reasons social media matters so much is discovery. It’s no longer good enough to only have a website as your sole form of digital presence. Today’s social media platforms are powered by advanced algorithms that prioritise relevance. Instead of only seeing content from accounts they already follow, users are constantly being introduced to new brands based on interests, behaviors, and engagement patterns. This creates a major opportunity for businesses to reach highly targeted audiences without relying solely on large advertising budgets. With the right content strategy, even smaller brands can compete alongside industry leaders.” GBCC (2026). Why a Strong Social Media Presence Is Essential for Business Growth in 2026. By researching this, I found that social media presence is important because it reaches your target audience; it also allows for people to see you as a person/ business owner. It shows them what you offer and how your business will work for them. It allows for you to be able to look back through your past work. What you can improve on and what needs to change. It also helps your customers understand your business, and helps fully submerged them into the experience.
The next step in this business plan is understanding the equipment you will need. For my particular business (also thinking about USP) I would need:
- PA Speakers.
- Speaker Stands.
- Monitor.
- Microphone (standard SM58).
- Mic Stand(s).
- XLR Cable(s).
- Extension cord/Power strip.
- Music stand/Tablet holder.
All of this equipment is what I would deem necessary for my business. The equipment that you will need may vary depending on your USP. I decided to have a look at how much money you would need to invest just in the equipment alone to see how much it would cost to start up the business. There are many different websites where you can buy things individually or in a bundle. The best website for this in my opinion is Gear4Music. I found a PA system on there that would allow a whole brand new set up. It would include the sound system, XLR cables, microphones and stands.
You are able to purchase this whole kit for £319.99 without a 10-year warranty. I would personally add the 10-year warranty (for an extra £74.90), as it just makes sure that if anything goes wrong with the equipment, that you are covered. This would bring the total costs for equipment only to: £394.89.
There are other financial costs to account for as well. These will include:
- Travel costs: Fuel, Hotel stays (if necessary).
- Public liability insurance.
- PAT testing.
I then went on a search through the internet to see how much these things may cost in the current month and year (May of 2026).
- Fuel: £70-£90
- Public liability insurance: anywhere from £6.75 to £11.80 per month depending on what level you would like. Image and website link below:

- PAT testing: Typical cost:
- “PAT testing costs in the UK typically range from about £1 to £1.25 per item, with discounts applied for larger volumes.
- Minimum visit fee
- Many PAT testers charge a call-out or minimum site fee of around £40–£60.
- Key cost driver
- The number of appliances tested and the testing environment have the biggest impact on the PAT testing cost.” Checkatrade’s Professional Estimators (2022). Taking all of this into consideration, it is finally time to tally up everything. I decided to do what I would earn in a year from when I first started. The yearly total is with all of the outgoings subtracted (including the equipment total)
In this yearly total, I am taking into consideration that business will start slow at first. This total is based on if I had 2 bookings on a weekend with the standard Silver package at £285.00.
£285.00 x 2 (2 days of work) = £570.00
£570.00 x 52 (52 weeks in a year) = £29,640.00
£29,640.00 would be the yearly total for my first year if my bookings were 2 a weekend at the standard silver package.
Then we have to minus all the outgoings from the first year:
£29,640.00 – £394.89 (equipment) = £29,245.11
£29.245.11 – £11.80(x12) (PLI – a month- paid for the year) = £29,103.51
£29,103.51 – £90(x52) (fuel for each week- may differ depending on distance) = £24,423.51
£24,432.51 – £60 = £24,363.51
This means based off of these calculations that if I were to book one wedding on a Friday and a Saturday at the standard silver price of £285.00 that my earnings after outgoings would be:
£24,363.51
When deciding on what I wanted to write and study about for this essay, I wanted it to link into my career and what I was doing now. I have already started doing weddings, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to showcase how I can push my business further. I feel like this essay has helped to develop my insights into this certain area of the industry, how hard and expensive it can be. There is a lot more to consider price and marketing wise than I thought. This business plan has developed my professional skills a lot. I now understand that there are a lot of underlying costs in this business that I didn’t take into consideration before. Moving forward I want to improve how I can market the business. I think social media is a large portion of building a business, but it is also about making sure you are making people aware of you in person. I can achieve this by doing open mics, wedding fairs and sharing my pages on social media as well. In the future I want to be able to develop my skills further by delving into my points more, and describing them in more thorough detail. I think my brand will work because it is tailored for everyone. The tiered system makes it accessible for everyone. It shows people my prices before they book, and makes them aware of any price changes due to travel and what they can expect from me during the day. The contract offers clear boundaries, and the showreel gives the customer an insight into how it will sound on the day and what they can expect from my set.
