This is the start of my vocal warm up. I practice my diaphragmatic breathing everyday because it was something I struggled with in my first week of skills classes. I got some feedback from Jo in voice class that I did not have very much movement in my abdominals when I was breathing so this is something I have been working to improve. In my video I start off with some diaphragmatic breathing, I was really pleased to see that there is clear movement in my belly when I am breathing and my breath is not going into my chest or shoulders. This breathing really helps to relax me and helps me focus so this is a really important part of my warm up. Going forward, I want to continue to practice my diaphragmatic breathing everyday to ensure that I do not lose this skill. Next, I practiced my fricative sounds on breath and on voice to practice my breath support and placement. My buddy, Polly, gave me feedback in week 1 that I need to support my sounds more so that they do not trail off at the end. I have worked to save some breath at the end to ensure this does not happen. In this warm up I think I successfully achieved this, however I think my sound throughout could be more consistent. Going forward, I will practice my diaphragmatic breathing on sound everyday to check I am really supporting. I then did some diagonal stretches with diaphragmatic breathing to make sure I am breathing into the side of my body. From the video I can clearly see that I am achieving this. I then worked on my resonance by doing jigglying on an ‘ah’ sound and then catching the vibrations on my lips and sending it out into the space in front of me. When I did this I could not feel any vibrations on my lips, I will do some more work on this to understand why.
